Finding Answers in the Way You Think
|
 |
Even science is discovering that the mind is independent from the brain and can affect how the brain and the rest of the body operate.
Brain researcher and psychiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz, in his latest book The Mind and the Brain, demonstrates that the mind can alter the brain’s neuronal circuitry in a process he calls neuroplasticity. Schwartz says during treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder, patients used their minds to re-shape their brains by focusing their attention away from negative behaviors and toward more positive ones.
He also presents convincing evidence for the existence of human free will and the inherent capacity for moral choice.
For anyone familiar with genius John Nash’s victory over schizophrenia, as told in the film A Beautiful Mind, this might not be news. However, what may be news is the fact the Bible proposed this hypothesis as a conclusion thousands of years ago.
The Bible tells us to think about what we’re thinking to protect us from evil and to keep focused on God.
In Philippians 4:8, Paul encourages us to think about whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable; he says to think on anything excellent or praiseworthy to help focus our minds toward God. Otherwise, our minds will be on earthly things, with our stomach our god and shame our glory.
In Romans 12:2, Paul warns us not to be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world, “but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Jesus cautions us in Matthew 5:28 to beware that even what we look at can cause us to hurt others and ourselves. He encourages us in Matthew 5:8 that the pure in heart will see God. In Proverbs 4:23, the Bible tells us to, above all else, guard our heart, for it’s the wellspring of life.
Christian resources teach truths, build values, encourage faith, and shape lives.
The “What Goes Into the Mind Comes Out in a Life”™ saying admonishes us to feed our minds with the fuel of God’s Word and will.
It also highlights the uniqueness of what the industry’s Christian retailers and suppliers offer. Christian retailers want to help those seeking to learn more about our spiritual dimension to know the God of love and His plan for each of our lives. Because Christian retailers pray, many people looking for God have found Him in a Christian store.
Christian retailers also see their work providing books, music, videos, Bibles, gifts, and more as tools to help Christians lead the good life, to fight the good fight, and run the race in such a way as to win the prize—the prize of presence today in God’s kingdom.
“What Goes Into the Mind Comes Out in a Life”™ is much more than just a slogan. It’s a way of life. We firmly believe that what we read, listen to, and view impact the way we live our lives—and the lives of those around us.
